Bunions FAQS

How can I relieve bunion pain?

Bunion pain usually comes from inflammation, swelling, or pressure on the forefoot and the bump at the base of your big toe. Relieving bunion pain, then, comes from addressing these issues. Avoid activities that stress your forefoot and cause you discomfort. Often this means sticking to low-impact activities for exercise. Wear shoes with soft uppers and plenty of room to accommodate your bunion. Avoid narrow footwear or shoes with high heels or no arch support. When the bulge hurts, take time to ice it. This helps manage swelling and inflammation in the joint.

Put pads between the side of your foot and the inside of your shoe to alleviate some of the pressure or pinching there. Since biomechanical issues typically contribute to this condition, arch support and custom orthotics may reduce the stress on your forefoot and help control the problem. Our team at A Step Up Podiatry, LLC in Manalapan, NJ, would be happy to help you eliminate your discomfort from bunions. Just call (732) 446-7136 to make an appointment with us today.
